RCB managed to get to a quick start thanks to the skipper, Faf du Plessis getting some quick runs in boundaries during the powerplay. But the debutant Mustafizur Rahman managed to get two wickets in his first over in yellow to give CSK the upper hand. This was followed by Deepak Chahar who got the dangerous Glenn Maxwell out for a golden duck.

Kohli took some time to find his touch but was dismissed by Mustafizur thanks to a brilliant effort by Ajinkya Rahane at the mid-wicket boundary ropes to hand the side the big wicket of RCB’s best batter. The Fizz managed to strike again in the same over to pick up his fourth wicket to get rid of the big-money signing Cameron Green with a peach of a delivery as well.

The 24-year-old Anuj Rawat and his partner Dinesh Karthik managed to pull things back with a brilliant 95-run partnership off just 50 deliveries to help RCB set a target of 174 runs for the defending champions.

In the final delivery of the first innings, MS Dhoni showed that he still had the skills behind the stumps as he landed a direct hit to avoid conceding the extra run as the innings came to a close.

The second innings started with a bang for the debutant, Rachin Ravindra, he began his career in the IPL in stellar fashion. Ruturaj Gaikwad found it hard to keep going as Yash Dayal managed to dismiss him with Cameron Green almost dropping the catch at slips.

Ravindra also followed as the leg-spinner, Karn Sharma managed to get the wicket before the Kiwi was able to get to a deserved half-century.

Ajinkya Rahane did not hold back and showed no signs of being out of touch as he did in the Ranji Trophy 2024. He managed to start off quickly and found the boundaries to keep the chase on track.

Shivam Dube also followed suit as he drove the chase home despite Rahane’s dismissal as the Mumbaikar along with Ravindra Jadeja secured the win for CSK to open their title-defending campaign on a positive note.

After CSK’s win, the next fixture takes place between the Punjab Kings and the Delhi Capitals in Mohali. It will be a momentous day as we get to see the return of Rishabh Pant who is set to lead the Capitals once again after being cleared to play following his accident which led to him being out for 14 months.
