India pacer Arundhati Reddy has been reprimanded by the International Cricket Council for breaching the Code on Conduct during India’s last Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 fixture against arch-rivals Pakistan. She was found guilty of violating Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel which relates to “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an International Match”.

The global cricketing body punished the Indian bowler for her furious send-off to Pakistan batter Nida Dar at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday. The incident occurred in the final over of the first innings, wherein Reddy gestured toward the pavilion after dismissing Nida Dar. India eventually took the game by six wickets, with Reddy winning the Player of the Match award for her career-best 3/19.

In addition to the reprimand, one demerit point has been added to the disciplinary record of Reddy, for whom it was the first offence in 24 months. The charges were levelled by on-field umpires Eloise Sheridan and Lauren Agenbag, third umpire Jacquline Williams and fourth umpire Claire Polosak.

Reddy admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Shandre Fritz of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees, so there was no need for a formal hearing. Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points.

India beat Pakistan by 6 wickets

Reddy’s career-best figures helped India beat Pakistan by six wickets to get their first win of the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup. On a slow and low pitch, with the venue hosting its 100th T20I game, India put in a much-improved effort with the ball after their 58-run thrashing at the hands of New Zealand by bowling tighter lines and not giving any freebies to Pakistan. Apart from Arundhati’s impressive spell, Shreyanka Patil also shined with 2-12 to set the base for India’s win.
