Gautam Gambhir, Ajit Agarkar to Address Media Before Sri Lanka Tour: Check Details, Date, Time of Press Conference
The BCCI stated that a pre-departure press conference has been organised ahead of the team's departure to Sri Lanka for the bilateral series.

Before flying to Sri Lanka for a white-ball bilateral series, newly-appointed head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar will jointly address the press in Mumbai on Monday. The men in blue will play a three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, starting July 27 in Pallekele.

Following the commencement of the series, the likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be back in action as Team India will move to Colombo for 3 ODI against the hosts, beginning August 02.

As stated by the BCCI on Saturday, “a pre-departure press conference has been organised ahead of the team’s departure to Sri Lanka for the bilateral series.”

Details of the pre-tour press conference:

Date: July 22, 2024

Time: 10 AM IST

To be addressed by: Gautam Gambhir, Head Coach, Indian Cricket Team & Ajit Agarkar, Chairman, Senior Selection Committee.

Suryakumar Yadav – the T20I captain

Suryakumar Yadav was on Thursday appointed as India’s T20I captain for the three-match series against Sri Lanka starting on July 27. The ace batter will succeed Rohit Sharma and was chosen over Hardik Pandya, the designated vice-captain during India’s title run in the West Indies and USA. Suryakumar had led India to a 4-1 series win over Australia in the T20I series last November and followed it up with a 1-1 draw in South Africa. He has also captained Mumbai in domestic cricket and led the Mumbai Indians in a sole IPL game.

Kohli, Rohit Returns to ODIs

After retiring from T20Is post the T20 World Cup, Rohit and Kohli will return for the Sri Lanka ODIs. It was earlier reported that both of them could skip the series, but with Gambhir keen to bring in the senior players for his debut series as the head coach, both Rohit and Kohli made themselves available for ODIs.

Shubman Gill appointed as new vice-captain

The biggest surprise was the elevation of Shubman Gill who captained India in the recently concluded Zimbabwe T20Is. He pipped the likes of Pant, and Pandya returning in T20Is and Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul back in ODIs. The management has put their money on Gill and opted to elevate the young star to the leadership group.

Maiden ODI calls up for Harshit Rana and Riyan Parag

Harshit Rana and Riyan Parag were rewarded with maiden ODI call-ups. Though Parag had an underwhelming debut India series in Zimbabwe, the move hints at Gautam Gambhir and Indian team management putting their money on the future. Both Rana and Parag had a stellar IPL 2024, and more importantly, the duo has a good List A record.

Squads:

T20I Squad: Suryakumar Yadav (C), Ꮪhubman Gill (VC), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rinku Singh, Riyan Parag, Rishabh Pant (WK), Sanju Samson (WK), Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, Mohd. Siraj.
