'From Denmark to Australia': Mohammad Nabi Picks up Win Against 45th Different Team as Afghanistan Stun Australia

Afghanistan posted a 21-run triumph over Australia in a huge upset in the Super 8 stage of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in West Indies on Sunday as they posted a total of 148 runs and managed to bundle out the Aussies for 127 runs to register a memorable triumph.

There were more milestones in Afghanistan’s triumph over the Australians as the victory also marked veteran Mohammad Nabi’s win against 45 different oppositions in T20 internationals.

Afghanistan were put to bat by the seasoned Aussies and managed to put up a total of 148 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their 20-over quota riding on a 60-run knock from Rahmanullah Gurbaz and a 51-run contribution from Ibrahim Zadran.

Pat Cummins was the pick of the bowlers for the Australians as he posted a three-wicket haul, while Adam Zampa supported him with a couple of wickets of his own.

The Afghan bowling unit came roaring straight out of the gate as Naveen-ul-Haq’s ripper sent Travis Head back to the hut for a duck in the third ball of the chase.

Naveen doubled down on his tally with the scalp of Aussie skipper Mitch Marsh for 12 runs. Nabi got his name on the wicket-takers list with the dismissal of David Warner for 3 runs.

Marcus Stoinis was next to go as he fell for 11 runs to Gulbadin Naib. Naib doubled his tally with the dismissal of Tim David for two.

Glenn Maxwell’s lone ranger innings of 59 runs gave Australia some hope, but it all came crashing down when the big-hitter was dismissed by Naib.

Rashid Khan sent Matthew Wade back to the dugout for 5 runs before Naib completed a four-wicket haul with the dismissal of Cummins for 3 runs.

Ashton Agar and Zampa were scalped for 2 and 9 runs respectively by Naveen and Azmatullah Omarzai as Afghanistan completed a memorable win and embolden their shout for a semifinal spot.
