Dhruv Jurel Matches MS Dhoni's Duleep Trophy Record for Most Catches in an Innings
Dhruv Jurel continues to impress from behind the stumps as he equal's MS Dhoni's record in the Duleep Trophy.

India A’s Dhruv Jurel continues to impress from behind the stumps as the wicketkeeper has gone on to match a record held by the former India skipper and legend, MS Dhoni in the Duleep Trophy tournament.

Jurel has gone on to match MS Dhoni to share the record for the most catches taken by a wicket-keeper in an innings at the Duleep Trophy. Dhoni first set the record when he represented the East Zone in the 2004-05 domestic season. Jurel went on to match that during India A’s opening fixture in the 2024-25 edition against India B in Bengaluru.

The 23-year-old wicket-keeper has already made his Test debut during the recently concluded home series against England and has had an impressive show with the bat and from behind the stumps. In the three Tests he had featured in, he has scored a total of 190 runs at an average of 63.33 with one half-century to his name.

Jurel was involved in the dismissal of India B’s Yashasvi Jaiswal, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Nitish Reddy, Musheer Khan, Sarfaraz Khan, Navdeep Saini and R Sai Kishore during the second innings.

However, he is yet to make much of an impact with the bat in the Duleep Trophy as he was dismissed on 2 in the first innings and a first-ball duck in the second respectively.

But with the return of Rishabh Pant on the cards, it is unlikely that he will be given a starting role in India’s upcoming Test matches. Pant has already shown that he can get the job done from behind the stumps and has a fifty under his belt in the Duleep Trophy.

With more games left in the tournament, Jurel will hope to get a big score on the board to ensure that he gets the selection call for India’s upcoming Tests against Bangladesh, New Zealand and Australia later this year.
