Delhi Capitals’ skipper, Rishabh Pant faced a lot of criticism as the captain during their thumping loss against the Kolkata Knight Riders at Visakhapatnam for the 2024 season of the Indian Premier League. While the bowling side of things took precedence, there was another aspect that also added to their woes where the skipper did not make the call to take the DRS review on time.

Early in the batting powerplay of the first innings, the pacer, Ishant Sharma had asked Pant to go for the review believing that the batter, Sunil Narine had edged it. However, after speaking with the other fielders he made the call just a fraction too late and was unable to go upstairs.

This proved to be a detrimental blow as Narine had edged the ball and could have been a game-changing wicket for the home side. The opening batter had unleashed his fury on the bowlers as he finished with a score of 85 runs in 39 deliveries which helped set the tone for KKR to post a mammoth total.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, the DC skipper had also shared his thoughts. He reasoned that he was unable to see the DRS time which is seen on the big screen. He said,” It was quite loud (the venue) and couldn’t see the timer on the screen (talking about the non-DRS moments) and there was some issue with the screen as well, there are some things you can control and some you cannot control, you just need to go with the flow”.

However, a point that could be argued is that when Pant had indicated for the DRS, his signal was on time, at least as per the live stream and he had made the call on time but it was the fault of the umpires to not have picked up on it.
The Delhi Capitals will now head for their third away game of the season as they travel to Mumbai where they take on Hardik Pandya’s Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on April 7, 2024.
