The T20 World Cup 2024 hosted by the West Indies and the United States of America is coming right around the corner. However, with just two days to go for the opening game, co-hosts West Indies have already started letting out the fireworks with Nicholas Pooran leading the batting unit to score 257/4 in their warm-up clash against Australia at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad and Tobago on Friday.
Pooran who came in at number three for the Windies smashed as many as eight maximums and five boundaries in his knock of 75 in just 25 balls. The wicketkeeper-batter had recently taken part in the Indian Premier League and had a poor start to the season but came good with a string of decent scores through the final stages and now seems to be at his very best for the national side ahead of the T20 showpiece event.
The Windies skipper, Rovman Powell was also in decent touch as he chipped in with 52 runs off 25 balls to help the home side post a mammoth total. The skipper also was part of the Rajasthan Royals who were eliminated in the second eliminator in the playoff stages.

At the top of the order, Johnson Charles also managed to give the side a decent start and stitched up a decent partnership worth 90 runs along with Pooran. But the opening batter fell thanks to Adam Zampa.
The leg-spinner was the pick of the bowlers for the Aussies with two wickets while giving away 62 runs while Ashton Agar and Tim David picked up a wicket each.
During the chase, Australia definitely showed intent in chasing down the massive score but lost some early wickets in the powerplay which did not help their cause. David Warner was gone in the second over thanks to Shamar Joseph while the skipper Mitchell Marsh’s wicket was taken by Alzarri Joseph and Ashton Agar was gone after a 13-ball 28 by Obed McCoy as the powerplay ended with a score of 89/3.

Josh Inglis and Tim David looked to carry on with the chase but Gudakesh Motie managed to get the breakthrough with Tim David back in the dugout. Inglis managed to carry on and score a fifty but struggled to find support in the other end which eventually led to his dismissal as Motie grabbed his second wicket of the match.
While the match seemed to have been more or less over, Nathan Ellis managed to strike a fine knock of 39 in 22 balls to keep the game moving forward while Zampa who struggled to get going, chipped in with a boundary as the West Indies claimed the win by 35 runs.
