'Agar Aap Uske Hisaab Se Sahi Nahi Hai To Unke Reaction...': Shami's Honest Admission About Rohit Sharma's On-Field Acts
Shami said the Indian captain usually gives freedom to all his players but if someone fails to meet his expectations, his unfiltered emotions are on display.

Rohit Sharma’s captaincy needs no introduction. After winning IPL titles, he recently led the Indian team to a second T20 World Cup win to end the 10-year-long draught of an ICC title. Be it his teammates or the coaches, all hail Rohit and call him the players’ captain. But at the same time, the skipper never hides his emotion on the field. Whether he is angry, jolly or excited, Rohit expresses himself very well. For the fans who watch the game on television, the most interesting part of his presence is his remarks that are often heard on stump mic.

Recently, Mohammad Shami elaborated on Rohit’s nature on the field. The ace Indian pacer, who is recovering from an ankle injury, said the Indian captain usually gives freedom to all his players but if someone fails to meet his expectations, his unfiltered emotions are on display.

“The best thing about Rohit is that he gives you freedom. Agar aap uske hisaab se sahi nahi utre, to unke thode se reaction bahar aane lagte hain. Wo aapko bateyga ki aapko ye karna tha, ya ye chaiye tha. Fir bhi aap uspe khare nahi utre, toh fir jo hum screen pe jo reactions dekhte hain, jo hum bina bole samajh jaate hain na, wo aane lagta hai. (However, if you don’t meet his expectations, his reactions start to show a bit. He’ll tell you that you should have done this or needed to do that. But if you still don’t live up to it, then the reactions we see on the screen, the ones we understand without him saying anything, start to come out),” Shami said during CEAT Cricket Rating Awards.

Even Rohit also explained what he demands from his boys on the field.

“I keep asking them to be themselves on the field. For that, first, I have to be myself… and that’s how I am,” he said.

Jay Shah, Agar & Dravid – the three pillars

Sharma hailed the trio as the three pillars behind the success of the team’s recent T20 World triumph

Speaking after being named the Men’s International Cricketer of the Year during an event in Mumbai, Rohit said, “It was my dream to transform this team and not worry too much about the stats, the results, to make sure that we create that environment where people can go out there and play freely without thinking too much.”

“That is what was required. I got a lot of help from my three pillars, who are actually Mr Jay Shah, Mr Rahul Dravid (and the) chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar. That was very critical for me to do what I did and not to forget the players, who came in at different points in time and helped the team to achieve what we achieved,” he added.
