The BSE cash turnover was Rs 3469.08 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 38860.64 crore.

Mumbai: The markets opened weak but moved saw upward momentum during the later part of the day. It was the second highest closing for Sensex ever. It closed at 12,537.98 up 184.49 points or 1.5 per cent. The Nifty gained 62.5 points to close at 3621.

The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 6,398.06 up 68.42 points or 1.08 per cent.

The BSE Midcap Index ended at 5,271.94 up 40.97 points or 0.78 per cent.

All the BSE sectoral indices closed in green.

The BSE Health Care Index was up 0.8 per cent at 3,638.93. Glenmark, Divis Labs, Apollo Hospital, Aurobindo Pharma, Sterling Bio and Sun Pharma closed higher.

The BSE IT Index gained 2.3 per cent at 4,689.17. HCL Tech, Moser Baer, TCS, Mphasis BFL and Wipro advanced.

The BSE Metal Index was up 2.6 per cent to close at 8,713.21. Sterlite Ind, SAIL, JSW Steel, JindalStainless and Hind Zinc ended higher.

The BSE Oil and Gas Index gained 2 per cent to close at 5,841.04. HPCL, BPCL, Reliance, GAIL and MRPL closed higher.

The BSE Capital Goods Index was up 1 per cent at 8,247.26. ABB, Siemens, BEML, Greaves Cotton, Alfa Laval and Bharat Elec closed higher.

The BSE Auto Index closed at 5,503.95 up 1.7 per cent. MRF, TVS Motor, Bajaj Auto, Maruti Udyog and Tata Motors were among the gainers.

The BSE Bankex was up 1 per cent at 6,051.86. Federal Bank, Bank of Baroda, Oriental Bank, UTI Bank and SBI moved upwards.

The BSE FMCG Index lost 0.12 per cent at 2,010.64.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 6710.13 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 28681.43 crore.
