Sensex goes down in early trade
The Sensex on Monday morning went down by over 65 points on profit-selling by funds as well as retail investors.

New Delhi: After opening in green, the Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark index Sensex witnessed a volatile trade on Monday and was down by over 65 points on profit-selling by funds as well as retail investors.

Similarly, the wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty, which opened in red, was down by 20.70 points at 4127.00 after rising to 4167.15.

Major gainers in the opening trade were Hindalco, TCS, Tata Steel, BHEL, Ranbaxy, Titan and Deccan Aviation.

Major losers which dragged the Sensex were Grasim Industries, ACC, Gujarat Ambuja Cement, State Bank of India, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Infosys Technologies, ITC Ltd and Hindsutan Lever.

Asian stocks started the week on an upbeat note on Monday.

Japan's Nikkei surged 0.23 per cent or 40.66 points at 17,462.59, Hong Kong's Hang Seng rose 0.27 per cent or 54.58 points at 20,335.711, Singapore's Straits Times soared 0.73 per cent or 22.51 points at 3,110.25.

However, Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted was down 0.71 per cent or 55.33 points at 7,765.99 and South Korea's Seoul Composite plunged 0.33 per cent or 4.48 at 1,366.85.
