Orissa junks Jharkhand's minor port plan

Ranchi: The Jharkhand government's plan to construct a minor port with the help of Orissa suffered a setback with the latter shooting down the request.

Jharkhand took up the issue with Orissa Saturday but the latter reportedly refused to help since the policy framework in Orissa does not allow construction of minor ports, said A K Singh, the transport secretary of Jharkhand.

The Orissa government, however, assured help to Jharkhand in allowing the use of the Dhamra port for industries in Jharkhand.

Jharkhand has planned to construct the port where the river Subernarekha meets the Bay of Bengal along the Orissa coastline.
