New Delhi: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) issued an order against air fare hike by 20 per cent, warning airlines against such a move. The aviation watchdog said that the cost of operation of scheduled airlines have not undergone any major changes in the past two months.

Directing scheduled domestic airlines to ensure that fares offered are within the fare band uploaded on the websites of respective airlines, the DGCA warned that scheduled airlines should ensure that "no upward revision in tariff is effected due to industrial unrest in Air India" and also surge in demand during this period.

The DGCA also said that violation would be dealt with under Rule 135 of Aircraft Rules 1937.

This comes amidst crisis in the aviation industry following the strike by the pilots of Air India and Kingfisher Airlines. Twelve Air India flights and seven Kingfisher Airlines flights were cancelled on Friday.
