Water Metro Ferries Begin Service On High Court-Fort Kochi Route, Check Ticket Price
Kochi Water Metro starts service, connecting High Court to Fort Kochi. Electric-hybrid ferries run every 20-30 mins, offering scenic views for Rs 40.

The Kochi Water Metro commenced its operations on Sunday, April 21, connecting the High Court and Fort Kochi.

The service attracted numerous tourists and travellers, quickly becoming one of the state’s top attractions. According to officials, the services commenced at 10 am.

The new line will have services every 20 to 30 minutes, and the trip will take about 20 minutes. In addition, the cost of each ticket is Rs 40. These ferries have electric-hybrid technology and air conditioning.

As per The New Indian Express report, Santhosh George Kulangara, a travel aficionado, and Kochi Metro managing director (MD) Loknath Behera were among the first to take the ride.

“The ride offers a picturesque view of the Kochi backwaters. On our way to Fort Kochi, we spotted dolphins. Moreover, it will help tourists avoid the chaotic road traffic and reach Fort Kochi in the comfort of air-conditioned boats,” a tourist, Shylaja, from Thiruvananthapuram said, as quoted by The New Indian Express. In accordance with the model code of conduct for elections, officials conducted a soft launch on Sunday.

The Water Metro network now has Fort Kochi as its tenth terminal. Cochin Shipyard Ltd has given Kochi Water Metro Ltd (KWML) ownership of 14 of the 23 boats in total. It is anticipated that the remaining boats will be delivered by June.

The Kochi Metro, which runs the services, anticipates that a large number of visitors will use the facility to get to Fort Kochi without having to worry about traffic jams.

One of the main tourist destinations in Kochi is the terminal at Fort Kochi. Furthermore, Vyttila, High Court, Vypeen, Kakkanad, Bolgatty, South Chittoor, Cheranalloor and Eloor are the other terminals. India’s first city to introduce a water metro service is Kochi.

In addition to making travelling to Fort Kochi easier for both residents and visitors, the innovative Water Metro service is predicted to ease traffic on the Ernakulam to West Kochi route.
