Mumbai’s civic body, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has presented the yearly budget for the year 2024-25. As per the official details, this year, an overall Rs 59,954 crore budget has been allocated for the fiscal, out of which Rs 928 crore has been given to the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) to uplift the city’s infrastructure.
With a major focus on reducing congestion on the road, the civic budget also suggested building a commercial and transportation centre at the former Octroi Naka sites in Dahisar and Mankhurd to lower the traffic in Mumbai.

As per the details shared by the TOI, quoting the civic commissioner I S Chahal, who said, “The main objective of the proposal is to provide integrated bus terminus, its integration with the rest of the transport modes of the city like BEST, Metro and paratransit systems to ensure that intercity and/or interstate buses are terminated at the entry point of the city, to reduce traffic congestion in Mumbai.”
Projects To be Founded By BMC?
In addition, Chahal stated that the projects shall be funded by BMC. To make it more clear about the transportation hub, he said, “Suitable development such office spaces/commercial, transit hotel, retail spaces, exhibition center and convention center at these locations have been planned to get the full benefit of the plots.” He continued by saying, the move will create income and make the project sustainable.”
Traffic Survey Done
To kickstart work on the goal, a traffic survey already has taken place at all five toll nakas. This gave an idea to the authorities about the actual number of buses entering and exiting Mumbai on a daily basis.
