After 25 years of using Mercedes-AMG models, Formula 1, Aston Martin Vantage debuted as the official safety car of Formula 1 (F1) earlier this month. In honour of that new role, Aston Martin released a new roadworthy Vantage F1 Edition with similar upgrades to the track model, which will be available in a coupe or a roadster version.

Technically called the Aston Martin Vantage F1 Edition, the car gets several aerodynamic improvements that include a front splitter and canards, rear wing, and underbody tweaks, among others. These tweaks allow an additional 441 pounds of downforce at top speed over a standard model.

Among other notable features, the Vantage F1 Edition also receives a slatted grille, carbon fibre accents, exclusive 21-inch wheels, a matte dark grey stripe and a quad-tip exhaust. Currently, it is available in only three colours — Aston Martin Racing Green, black and white, all three of which can be in matte or gloss finish. The car’s interiors get a black leather and grey Alcantara with a choice of green, black, grey or red stitching and centre stripe.

However, the Vantage F1 Edition's enhancements go well beyond their appearance. It gets a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine that makes close to 528 horsepower. Meanwhile, the torque output remains unchanged at a more-than-ample 505 pound-feet. However, the British carmaker made a few small tweaks, as it comes in an eight-speed automatic only transmission, which the company claims retuned to shift faster.

As is the case with supercars, the F1 Edition Vantage Coupe’s price starts at $162,000, while the roadster’s pricing hasn’t been revealed yet. Aston Martin is taking orders from interested customers and the cars will be delivered startinglate summer this year.
