He has joined the elite list of cricketers with former Australia wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist and Pakistan’s Sarfaraz Ahmed.

Adam Gilchrist had achieved this feat against Namibia in Potchefstroom during the 2003 ODI World Cup. Former Pakistan skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed, on the other hand, set this record during a 2015 World Cup game in Auckland against South Africa.

Last month, De Kock’s stupendous knock of 174 off 140 balls against Bangladesh at the World Cup helped him set the record for the highest score for a designated wicketkeeper in the history of the tournament. De Kock surpassed Adam Gilchrist’s innings of 149 against Sri Lanka during the World Cup 2007 final.

Quinton de Kock has also emerged as the first South Africa cricketer to notch as many as three tons in a single edition of the World Cup. Before his innings against Bangladesh, the 30-year-old South African cricketer registered scores of 100 and 109 against Sri Lanka and Australia respectively.

Overall, Quinton de Kock has so far scored four centuries in the ongoing edition of the World Cup. De Kock is currently enjoying a sensational strike rate of 109.24 at the World Cup, currently being held in India. His average is also a whopping 65.66 in this competition.

On Friday, De Kock scored 41 off 47 balls against Afghanistan at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Chasing a total of 245, the Proteas scored the winning runs with 15 balls to spare. South Africa’s Rassie van der Dussen was adjudged Player of the Match for his sublime knock of unbeaten 76.
