King Charles supports daughter-in-law Kate Middleton during hospital visits as they undergo surgeries, amidst family tensions and cancer diagnosis

Britain’s King Charles encouraged his daughter-in-law Kate Middleton while they were both being treated for their surgeries in January, according to a new UK media report. The 42-year-old wife of heir to the throne Prince William this week announced her cancer diagnosis.

This came as a fresh health blow to the British royal family as King Charles is also undergoing cancer treatment. UK media reports said the Princess of Wales regularly met with the King at the London Clinic, where Charles was treated for an enlarged prostate and Middleton underwent abdominal surgery.

“When they were in hospital together there was a lot of toddling down the corridor to spend time with her. He has been encouraging and supporting her throughout,” told the Times of London. Charles “has remained in the closest contact with his beloved daughter-in-law throughout the past weeks” since then, according to a Buckingham Palace spokesperson.

“The King has always had a close, warm and unique relationship with the princess. She has a great love and respect for him and his position,” a source close to Charles told the paper. Kate’s Friday announcement dominated British newspaper front pages on Saturday, with supportive messages combined with criticism of those who had speculated about her health in recent weeks.

Kate’s statement via a video message triggered an outpouring of support from well-wishers. Both the Princess of Wales and her husband have been “enormously touched” by the messages of support received since she announced her cancer diagnosis, a Kensington Palace spokesperson said on Saturday.

Earlier, gossip on social media, and in newspapers had abounded since Kate’s January surgery. On Friday, messages of support poured in for Kate Prince Harry, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby and US President Joe Biden.
