US Vice President and Democratic nominee Kamala Harris and her contender former US president Donald Trump are neck-to-neck in a newly released poll, media outlets there reported.
According to the newly released The New York Times/Siena College poll Harris and Trump are separated by one point. The poll showed 47% voters backing Harris while 48% voters backed Donald Trump.
The polling took place between September 3 and September 6.
The poll results have been released ahead of the Trump-Harris debate scheduled to be held on Tuesday night. This is the second presidential debate which is being held ahead of the November elections.
In June, US President Joe Biden debated Donald Trump, which observers said was one of the worst debates with many casting doubts on Biden’s ability. Following the disastrous outing, Biden dropped out of the race and endorsed Kamala as the presidential nominee.
The poll showed that 30 percent of likely voters said they believe “the United States is on the right track”, while 60 percent disagreed with the idea.
A separate national poll conducted by The Hill/Decision Desk HQ showed that Kamala Harris is leading Donald Trump by 3.8 percentage points, with Trump garnering 45.7 percent support to Harris’s 49.5 percent support.
Even though Kamala Harris faces tough battles in swing states like Georgia and Arizona, the averages of polls from The Hill/Decision Desk HQ from Georgia and Arizona show Kamala Harris has a 0.4 percent lead and is tied with Trump, respectively.
The Times/Siena poll surveyed 1,695 registered voters and has a margin of sampling error of 2.8 percentage points.
