Watch: Old Delhi Rickshaw Puller Speaks Fluent English To Guide Tourists

When we come across such content during our virtual scrolls, it serves as a striking reminder that if given an opportunity these underprivileged people could have achieved a lot more. A viral video of a rickshaw puller speaking fluent English to tourists at Delhi’s Jama Masjid reinforces a similar ideology.

In a now-viral video doing the rounds on X (formerly Twitter), a rickshaw puller was seen speaking to an elderly tourist couple from the UK in the English language. The couple was in Delhi to visit one of the iconic mosques in the city, Jama Masjid. Sitting on the rickshaw, they gave a patient hearing to the rickshaw puller who explained to them the nitty-gritty of the religious place. The young man was heard explaining that Jama Masjid is one of India’s biggest mosques, interspersed with “narrow” lanes. He urged the tourists to take pictures there and shop as much as they wanted.

The rickshaw puller also informed the couple about the famous Spice Market in the region, infused with shops selling a variety of Indian spices. He told them to walk around the area and take pictures of the place. Calling his vehicle a “helicopter”, the rickshaw puller concluded that once they were done with roaming the place they could hop back on the rickshaw. Every word the man spoke was in clear English. Although he broke his sentences into small parts, his clarity, fluency, and comprehensibility were truly commendable.

X users lauded the rickshaw puller’s English-speaking skills. An account remarked, “If I had known this, today I too would have been answering the British in their own language.” A user wrote, “Very beautiful.”
