Virat Kohli's Deepfake Video Slamming Shubman Gill Goes Viral; Netizens Call AI 'Dangerous'
Fans were quick to point out that the video making rounds on social media is fake.

The Indian cricket circuit has been rife with ever-rising comparisons between Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar. While many have labelled Kohli as the GOAT (Greatest of All Time), some feel that the Master Blaster still remains the best batter ever to play for India.

In recent times, there has been a new entry in this debate and it is young India batter Shubman Gill. The 24-year-old talent has already impressed fans and experts with his brilliant technique and some of his remarkable knocks.

While Gill is still young, many have already earmarked him as the next big thing in Indian cricket. A fan-made video has now triggered a big debate on X (formerly Twitter), where Kohli can be heard falsely taking a dig at Gill.

In the edited video, Virat Kohli can be heard saying that there’s a “big gap between showing promise and becoming a legend.” In the post, Kohli was also heard comparing himself with Sachin Tendulkar.

The edited video falsely claimed the former Indian skipper saying, “I have been watching Gill closely. He’s talented, no doubt. But there is a big gap between showing promise and becoming a legend. Gill’s technique is solid. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. People talk about the next Virat Kohli but let me be clear, there’s only one Virat Kohli.”

While fans were quick to react to the post, many pointed out that the video is edited. Responding to the clip, a user commented, “I will be half asleep and still know that this is not how Virat talks and this is not even his voice.”

This person pointed out that the post was “AI generated.”

Echoing a similar sentiment, another wrote, “For a moment, I thought it was real. AI is dangerous for sure.”

Last month, Shubman Gill had admitted there are expectations from him but it will be tough to replicate what Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli had achieved. “Pressure and expectations…they I think always remain. But what Virat Bhai and Rohit Bhai have achieved, if I look to achieve that or reach that, it will be very difficult for me,” Gill had said ahead of the first T20I against Zimbabwe in Harare.

“Every player has his own goal, where he wants to reach. That is the pressure. If you want to reach where other people have reached, then you have more pressure,” Shubman Gill added.

Shubman Gill made his India captaincy debut in the series against Zimbabwe earlier this year. He has already guided the Gujarat Titans to an Indian Premier League (IPL) triumph in 2022.
