These days it is quite common to see food bloggers experimenting with bizarre food combos or unusual ingredients that disgust people to the core. However, videos of these weird foods go viral, creating waves on the internet. One of the latest additions to these viral food videos is the making of ‘Snow Cream’. Recently, a clip of a man preparing this unique dessert using freshly fallen snow outside his house has left the internet divided. While the share disgusted some people who raised concerns regarding health risks, others have shared their own experience of eating this dessert in the past.
Shared by Instagram user Jimmy Proffitt, the now-viral video shows the man scooping freshly fallen snow from a table placed outside his house. He heaps the snow in a large bowl and takes it to his porch, where he has different ingredients ready to make the dessert. He then mixes sugar, evaporated milk, and vanilla essence with the snow in the bowl and then eats it.
“I’ve been eating snow cream all my life. It is something my mom used to make when I was a kid,” he says.
He also shares two pro tips to make the snow cream mouthwatering. Firstly, he asks to chill the evaporated milk beforehand and to make the dessert outside so that it stays chilled. He then says that one can also add chocolate chips, chocolate syrup, or crushed Oreos to the snow cream to make it more delightful.

It goes without saying that the video went insanely viral, with over 27.3 million views so far, and the numbers are constantly growing. Internet users chimed in to the comment section to share their take. The clip elicited varied responses, with many criticising the man for consuming snow in this way, as they feel it is polluted/contaminated. While some Instagram users watched the video and re-lived their childhood memories, others backed the man and slammed the trolls, believing it to be better than the junk food or ultra-processed foods we eat on a daily basis.
Reminiscing about childhood memories, a user wrote, “Omg, this brought me back to my childhood. My dad and I used to make this every time it snowed!!!!!!”
An individual expressed, “Wow, we lived in the country so the snow wasn’t all pollution-filled. It’s been probably 55 years since I’ve had snow cream. Love it.”
“If you think eating snow is bad, get off this planet. Seriously, it falls from the sky, no pipes, no chemicals, no bleach etc. Some of you all need to get off social media and go outside,” argued another.
“My grandma would make this for me,” a user stated.
An account remarked, “So, no one wants to talk about how disgusting eating snow is?”
In a follow-up reel, the man busted some of the misconceptions people had about the snow through a lengthy post. Clearing the air in the caption, he wrote, “I gathered it [the snow] after it had been falling for hours, and only went halfway down when I scooped. That was a table, not a bird bath as some people kept commenting. I mean seriously, we ain’t bathing ostriches over here in East TN in our backyard!”

He went on to say, “A single bowl of snow cream once or twice a year is not concerning to me, or many people I know. It’s not that I don’t appreciate folks being concerned, cause I do. Now, that reel blowing up has been the best thing for my account! There are more than double the followers I had before. And hopefully some folks enjoyed it, and it brought back memories for so many.”
