A Michigan man’s disappointment over missing a $610,000 lottery jackpot by a single digit turned into euphoria when he won an even bigger prize just a day later. The 53-year-old Malcolm County resident had played the Michigan lottery on July 26, only to find out he had missed the top prize by a mere digit. His initial reaction was one of frustration, uttering “I was so close” upon learning the news.
However, the man decided to try his luck again the very next day. And try he did, purchasing another ticket online for the Fantasy 5 drawing on July 27. In a stunning twist of fate, the man’s second chance paid off in a big way. He matched all five numbers to win a staggering $795,905 jackpot, surpassing the previous day’s prize by a significant margin. Michigan Lottery officials confirmed the win, stating that the man had indeed purchased the winning ticket online on July 27, just 24 hours after his initial near miss.
Talking about the unbelievable turn of events at the Michigan Lottery, the US man shared he is a usual participant in the lottery. However, that night when he lost the drawing by a digit and only won 100 dollars, he felt disappointed and forgot to buy tickets from the store. As a result, he bought 2 tickets online the next day.
He said, “I always buy Fantasy 5 tickets if the jackpot is over $250,000, I usually buy my tickets in-store, but the night of the drawing, I realized I’d forgotten to buy some.”
After the results, he received an email from the Michigan Lottery saying he’d won $1. Initially, he thought that was all he had won when another email instructed him to log into his account to claim his prize.
Furthermore, he shared that his first reaction after looking at the prize money was that he was being scammed and the the reality of his big win only came in when he visited the lottery office to claim his prize.”When I logged in and saw $795,905 pending, my first thought was that it was a scam,” he said.
Sharing his feelings, the US man said, “What’s crazy is the night before, I matched four out of five numbers on my Fantasy 5 ticket and thought: ‘I was so close!'” he shared.
