Everyone’s aware of the chaotic state of Indian trains, which often resemble bustling fish markets, with passengers cramming in as if there’s no tomorrow. The ticketless crowd clogs aisles, doorways, and any available space. Recently, this congestion reached a peak when a passenger had to walk over people sleeping in the aisle to answer ‘nature’s call.’
This peculiar episode was shared on the ‘Indian Railways’ subreddit. The passenger posted a picture revealing people sleeping in the aisle of a 3rd AC coach on the Pune-Jaipur SF Express. Another photo showed passengers with bed sheets covering their faces. The original poster confessed, “Had to use the washroom urgently and was stuck because of these people… I felt really bad for them as I had to walk over them to get to the washroom.”
Here’s the Reddit Post:

The post quickly went viral, sparking a wave of reactions from the public. One user speculated, “Railway authorities are letting this happen purposefully. AC tier-3 is a new sleeper and the government wants you to spend more. Chronology abhi bahot deep hai dheere dheere samjh aayega sabko.”
Another added, “Don’t feel bad, it’s their fault for sleeping in places not intended to sleep.” A third user was puzzled, “How did they even get blankets without a reservation?”
A fourth commenter offered a different perspective, “Damn it’s getting intense, How they even got blankets without reservation?”
This wasn’t an isolated incident. Another Reddit user, @EnvironmentalYear791, recently posted about a similar situation. The user shared a photo on the ‘Indian Railways’ subreddit, showing a bedsheet strung between six seats with a child sleeping on it due to no space in the overcrowded train. This happened in a 3AC coach of the Mysuru Special Fare Summer Special.
These incidents highlight the ongoing issues with overcrowding on Indian trains, sparking debates on whether the railway authorities need to implement stricter regulations and better manage the reservation system to ensure a more comfortable journey for everyone.
