This Woman's Aigiri Nandini Performance On Jal Tarang Will Make Your Day
Recently, a video of a woman playing a popular Mahisasura Mardini tune on a Jal tarang went viral.

Music surely has a special place in our hearts, and some tunes have stood the test of time to be passed on from one generation to another. While contemporary music has its own place, traditional and unique instruments have not lost their charm. Recently, a video of a woman playing a popular Mahisasura Mardini tune on a Jal Tarang went viral. The internet was simply left in awe of this musician’s expertise and could not help but shower praise.

In the viral video, a woman is heard playing the tune Aigiri Nandini on a temporarily made Jal Tarang, and the tunes are melodiously accurate. Sharing the clip on Instagram, the user wrote, “Jal Tarang is one of the oldest Indian musical instruments in the world. Essentially, the name Jal Tarang is water (jal) and tarang means waves/ripples in water. This percussion instrument was first believed to have been developed in the 17th century.” The tune Aigiri Nandini is about Goddess Parvathi’s Durga form, where she destroys the demon Mahishasur.

Since being shared, the video has received over 3.1 million views and a slew of reactions from netizens.

Some mesmerised users praised her saying, “What a talent with tradition.” Another person who was simply awestruck to hear the rendition stated, “I really had goosebumps while listening this…really awesome and fantabulous.”

A person shared, “Amazing, also I sang along that was indeed heart touching,” while another exclaimed, “This is the type of content I pay my internet bills for.”

Expressing how effortlessly the old woman performed the entire tune, a user said, “The smile on her face while balancing perfect synchronisation is worth a billion more effort..incredible ma’am.”

While social media has an abundance of music renditions and performances, not all viral clips have had a similar impact on the internet. “Of all the renditions that float on social media this one has the most calming and rejuvenating energy,” stated one user.

Although the viral video left a lasting impact on netizens, it also renewed the need to hold on to the classical music root while embracing modern music trends. A person simply stated, “Indian classical music or dance should be in our children’s curriculum as part of our heritage.”
