The incident took place near the railway crossing on Chhatoh Road in Uttar Pradesh's Gandhi Nagar.

Imagine parking your bike on the road and stepping away for a bit, only to find that a massive snake has claimed up the vehicle. This scary scenario turned into reality in Uttar Pradesh when a youth parked his bike on the side and stepped aside as he waited for the train to pass at a railway crossing. When he returned to his bike, he was shocked to see a snake slithering over his bike. Soon, the scary incident attracted a hoard of onlookers. The reptile coiled itself on the bike’s fuel tank and it seemed unfazed by the commotion around it.

On Tuesday, a journalist shared a video of the horrifying incident on X. In the 57-second video, the snake is only visible via the flashlights emitting from phones. The journalist cited the location as Chhatoh Road in Gandhi Nagar. It is hard to identify the snake as it was dark. Amid the chaos, one was heard asking someone to fetch a stick so that they could scare away the reptile.

Notably, killing a snake is illegal in India as they are protected under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. The act prohibits hunting or possessing snakes, and their body parts or venom.

This is not the first time that a snake was spotted on a two-wheeler. In 2021, IFS officer Susanta Nanda shared a video that showed a large snake hiding behind a scooter’s headlights. From outside, the scooter looked normal but once the snake catcher unscrewed the vehicle’s headlights, the reptile popped out. The snake catcher managed to capture the snake inside a large container. While sharing this clip, Nanda advised people to carefully check their vehicles during the rainy season. He wrote, “Such guests during rains are common… But uncommon is the method used to rescue it. Never ever try this.”

It was unclear when and where the incident took place. However, the licence plate on the scooter indicated that the video might be from Telangana. Commenting on it, an X user urged people not to handle snakes by mimicking the catcher’s steps and wrote, ‘I personally know the rescuer. He is my super super senior at Friends of Snakes Society and he knows exactly what he is doing. He had rescued thousands of snakes. This is not to be tried by untrained persons.”
