The dog helped catch criminals for nearly six years, serving in the Secretariat of the Navy of Mexico (SEMAR) as a tracking dog.

Remember the arrest of infamous drug lord Rafael Caro Quintero? It was a huge win for the Mexican authorities. This is because Quintero was a part of the FBI’s ‘ten most wanted fugitive’ list. He was also convicted of torturing and killing a United States anti-narcotics agent. The co-founder of the dangerous Guadalajara cartel, Quintero was also infamous for running one of the biggest drug operations in Latin America. Do you know who was the biggest hero of the entire operation conducted to nab the drug lord? Well, it was a six-year-old canine called Max. The adorable dog is popular for taking down drug cartel bosses.

A part of the Mexican Marines, Max is the female bloodhound that helped catch criminals for nearly six years serving in the Secretariat of the Navy of Mexico (SEMAR) as a tracking dog. It was in July 2022 when Max shot to fame for helping the Mexicans and the US in tracking down Rafael Caro Quintero. Notably, Max was a pivotal part of the Urban Search and Rescue Unit (USAR) in the Mexican Armed Forces. During his tenure with the force that works towards helping people following several natural disasters, Max rescued some of those trapped in the collapse of Chiquihuite Hill in 2021 during the massive landslide.

The special canine’s retirement date came in 2023, but rather unsurprisingly, it lasted an entire year longer in the job. In a statement released by SEMAR, authorities highlighted the “great work” done by Max while also emphasising the fact that they will be looking for more dogs to follow in Max’s footsteps. The statement also said that authorities need dogs that can “serve and track in search and rescue operations for this noble institution”.

Born in 2016, the brave canine, Max weighs around 78 pounds. The Mexican military, while speaking about the canine, said that it is an expert when it comes to tracking. The military also said that Max has been a part of the forces while conducting the capture mission adding that they have conducted several search operations with the military forces.
