Kiran Verma, a social activist and the founder of the blood donation platform Simply Blood, recently shared a heartwarming incident that reaffirms one’s faith in humanity. In a Facebook post, Verma recounted an experience during a ride in an Uber cab. He noticed that the driver was repeatedly ignoring incoming phone calls. Concerned, Verma urged the driver to answer if the call was urgent. The driver hesitantly picked up and was soon engaged in a conversation with his young daughter, who was insisting on getting a new bag. The Uber driver then spoke to his wife and said, “I am trying to save a little money but can’t afford to buy a new bag at least in the next 2-3 days as I recently bought books for our daughter and need to pay monthly bills."
All of this conversation was audible to Verma. This prompted him to change his pick-up location. Verma then asked the Uber driver to follow him to a shop, the driver joined him and both of them picked up a school bag. Verma paid for the bag from his wife’s account as he did not have enough money in his account. The driver thanked him for this sweet gesture and took his number. Later in the day, the driver sent him a photo of his daughter happily holding the bag.
Recalling this moment, Verma said, “This one picture was more valuable than any money could buy." He added, “I don’t have words, how rich I feel after this. But gratitude to each and every father who never lets their kids down. Even in the worst situation they are going through. I am sure my wife won’t get angry with me for spending from her money." Verma blurred the photo of the driver and his daughter as he shared their photo from his WhatsApp chat.
This post soon got over 1.7 lakh reactions and over 6,000 likes. Commenting on it, a Facebook user wrote, “I loved it that you also blanked out their faces !! Real heroes! Giving and showing off the receiver’s faces is not cool! This post is the best one I saw today and it touched my heart! Keep doing good!"
Another person wrote, “Good on you Kiran. Not just for doing what you’ve done, but also posting about the same, so that the message reaches out to all, and hopefully even inspire some to emulate & do their bits too. Really made my day!" Someone else wrote, “May God bless you abundantly for your kind action. Every child deserves a good life and all of us can do whatever we can for others."
