In a rare and selfless gesture by a stranger, a woman came forward and donated her kidney to a needy patient with stage 4 renal cancer. At a time when people have become busy with their lives, with very little time to think about their loved ones, this story comes as a heartwarming tale to listen to and makes us believe in humanity. A recent Facebook post shows the woman’s kind gesture, which left the patient’s family grateful. Hailing from Kentucky, Chase Cooper, a father of two, was diagnosed with Stage four cancer last year, and his name was put on a kidney transplant list.
His wife, Kaila Cooper, said, “We were told prior to him starting this that typically, people wait two to five years before they receive an organ."
This is when she took things into her own hands and shared a Facebook post asking for help. However, to their surprise, a stranger actually contacted them and offered her help by donating her kidney. She further shared how Hanna Durbin, a complete stranger to the Coopers, approached them and also began the process to see if she was a match.
“She was the real deal. The stars align well, more than the stars aligning. The good Lord had us covered," Kaila told the outlet.
While the original transplant date was set for December, the family found that Durbin and Chase were no longer compatible for a kidney transplant, leaving them devastated. As they started looking for another donor, it was again in January 2024 that the doctors told them that Durbin was “once again" a direct living donor for Chase Cooper.
Later, they went through successful surgery for the transplant at the University of Kentucky. Expressing extreme gratitude over Hanna’s selfless gesture, Chase Cooper also spoke to the outlet and said that she is like a family member now.
“God is good. That is all I can think to say. What an incredible storyline he wrote for us and Hanna. Hard to fathom that a total stranger, compelled by her faith and following/growing in it – saved MY HUSBAND. Never will there be another day that Hanna is anything but family to us," Kaila wrote on Facebook in a final update.
In the meantime, the story has gone viral, with a lot of people coming forward to hail Hanna’s efforts.
