A Reddit post, now removed, has stirred the headlines after a 29-year-old-man claimed in it that his 27-year-old fiancee named Kate wishes to become a tradwife after marriage. The word tradwife denotes the work expected from a woman in a patriarchal society, i.e.- staying home, maintaining the house, embracing motherhood and being generally subservient to her husband.
The man who preferred to stay anonymous wrote that he had completely been thrown off guard and now felt like calling off the wedding. This started when Kate discussed post-wedding life in front of her fiancee and mentioned the idea of becoming a tradwife. Initially, this man didn’t know about this and asked her the meaning of this term. Now, after knowing the meaning, this idea seems absurd to him and he explained its reason.
The man wrote, “The More to the point, the idea of her just staying home all day cleaning and cooking is a bit strange to me when we live in such a small place. Between the two of us we can clean the whole flat in half a day, it takes me about half an hour to vacuum and mop all the floors for example. When I self-processed that I thought she was joking, but she was dead serious.”
The man’s fiancee Kate got this idea after she saw videos of tradwives on TikTok making claims about the greatness of their lives and happy marriages. He said that his would-be-life-partner wishes the same for them as well but he told her that it wouldn’t make him happy.
Also, as claimed by the man, the role of the traditional wife doesn’t make any sense because they live in a small flat that requires very little maintenance. They have no children as well for her to stay at home with. Now, the man is contemplating on the idea of whether he should get separated from his partner of 4 years as she is adamant about becoming a tradwife. This person claimed that he has no problems with housewives but despises the idea of tradwives as he claimed that they do nothing.
