‘Medal toh medal hove hai, chhora laave k chhori’. Aamir Khan’s words reverberated across the cricketing universe as Smriti Mandhana and her squad achieved what RCB fans have yearned for over 16 years – the IPL TROPHY! After all, despite Royal Challengers Bangalore’s perennial drought in the IPL, it was the Women’s team that delivered an exhilarating victory in just their second season of the WPL. Talk about women’s power – RCB fans found themselves in awe, unable to shake off the astonishment of witnessing these female athletes accomplish what had long been anticipated by the men.

This victory sparked a wave of playful banter aimed at the RCB Men’s team and their star, Virat Kohli, through a flurry of witty memes and jokes. While the jests were in good spirits and never intended to undermine women’s capabilities, the sheer unpredictability of their win provided fodder for teasing the men, suggesting they could take a cue or two from these Goddesses.

In pursuit of 114 runs for victory, RCB clinched the target with three balls to spare, with all-rounder Ellyse Perry standing tall with an unbeaten 35 off 37 balls. A crucial element behind their chase of a sub-par total on Sunday was the stellar performance of their spin quartet – Sophie Molineux, Shreyanka Patil, Asha Sobhana, and Georgia Wareham – who collectively snatched nine out of the 10 wickets, leaving DC struggling to find momentum.

On the flip side, despite Kohli’s unwavering presence for RCB in every IPL season since its inception in 2008, and despite reaching three finals in 2009, 2011, and 2016, the coveted trophy still eludes him. And so when the Women’s team achieved it, Kohli graciously congratulated Mandhana and her team via video call before RCB hoisted the Women’s Premier League (WPL) trophy, following their resounding eight-wicket victory over DC at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

After video calling the RCB skipper, Kohli also took to Instagram, sharing a noteworthy tribute to Bangalore’s ‘superwomen’.
