Former Google Executive Parminder Singh's Kurkure Story At Beijing Office Will Leave You ROFL
Spotting what he believed to be a plate of familiar fried kurkures, Parminder ate a generous portion of the snack without a second thought.

Parminder Singh, the former executive of tech giant Google and micro blogging platform X, recently shared a comical incident that unfolded during his time at the Google office in Beijing. The story revolves around an amusing mix-up involving a popular Indian snack, kurkure, and a rather unexpected Chinese delicacy.

In a tweet on his X profile, Singh narrated the incident, explaining how he found himself in culinary confusion at the Google cafeteria. Spotting what he believed to be a plate of familiar fried kurkures, he indulged in a generous portion of the snack without a second thought.

However, the twist came when his colleague noticed his choice of snack and commented on it. Singh recalls the exchange, “Wow, I didn’t know you were a fan of these.”

To which he confidently replied, “Yes, of course. I grew up eating something similar as a snack in India.”

The unexpected revelation followed, with his colleague expressing surprise, “Really? Are duck tongues common in India?”

Realising the mix-up, Singh humorously shared that he now exercises caution before indulging in kurkures. He confessed to having mistaken the crispy-coated delicacy for duck tongues. He added, “Now, whenever I see a plate of ‘kurkures’, I double-check to make sure it’s not Chinese tongue-di kabab!”

In a subsequent update, Singh clarified his adventurous palate, stating, “Just for the record, I’m happily adventurous with my food. I have eaten everything from snakes to insects and of course duck tongues! But when I expect kurkure, I want kurkure!”

The post quickly gained traction, garnering 1,59,500 views and sparking a lively conversation in the comments section.

Political analyst Tehseen Poonawalla shared his enthusiasm, stating, “I love it… it’s actually yummy and addictive.”

Others joined in with their own amusing anecdotes of culinary mix-ups.

A user once shared a story about her experience in Kuala Lumpur where she filled her plate with a dish resembling sev-bhajia. She mentioned that she found the scent a bit unusual. Upon closer inspection, she noticed that every strand of sev had a pair of tiny eyes. It turned out to be a type of deep-fried, minuscule fish.

Another recounted a similar experience, saying, “Sir it happened to me also .. in 2012 I went to Hangzhou and thought of buying some chips (because I thought every chip is made of potato ) .. I bought 5-6 packets but later on, I realised they were made of octopus and duck.”

A user added to the amusing tales, saying, “I had a Colombian colleague offer me some chocolate-covered snacks once and they turned out to be ants covered in chocolate. I didn’t mind the taste though, they were crunchy.”

The remaining participants in the comments section appeared to share in the amusement, expressing hearty laughter at the shared anecdotes.
