Dr Ferakh Hamid from Aesthetique Dental Care says many people overlook this simple mistake which causes tooth discolouration. He suggests wetting your toothbrush before brushing. According to Dr Hamid, this helps spread toothpaste evenly, making cleaning more effective.

He added to Bristol Live, “Brushing your teeth in certain ways, like without water or immediately after eating acidic foods, could make them appear less white over time. Dry brushing might seem effective for removing surface stains initially, but without water, toothpaste doesn’t spread well, resulting in dull teeth.”

Additionally, brushing right after eating acidic foods can wear away your tooth enamel. It reveals the yellowish layer beneath, making your teeth look yellower. It also highlights the importance of brushing properly and at the right time to keep your teeth’s natural colour and shine.

The acid in these foods can weaken your enamel, leading to tooth sensitivity or discolouration. To avoid this, wait a while after eating acidic foods before brushing your teeth. It maintains strong enamel and keeps your teeth healthy.

It’s important to stick to a good cleaning routine for fresh breath and healthy gum. Use mouthwash or toothpaste with germ-fighting properties to keep your mouth clean. Don’t forget to visit your dentist regularly and clean your tongue every day. If you wear dentures, take care of them properly.
