In a world where being untethered from our mobile phones is a rarity, only a few brave souls resist the digital siren call. For the rest, the day unfolds and wraps up with the omnipresent glow of their smartphones, subtly pilfering away their ‘smartness’. How, you wonder? As if you’re not already aware of the fact that this distraction isn’t just stealing our peace but also claiming lives! And just to drive this point home, a signboard in Bengaluru emerged as the town crier for all those strolling with their noses buried in their phones.
The proclamation on the signboard declares, ‘Be Aware of Smartphone Zombies,’ poignantly likening ‘cellcoholics’ to nothing short of lifeless entities, blissfully ignorant of their surroundings. Shared by the ‘X’ user, @prakritea17, with the caption, “This signboard in BLR singlehandedly attacked our entire generation,” the pic went viral, prompting a lively chorus of reactions from the public.

“Nowadays it looks like talking over the phone while crossing the busiest junction is a mandatory stuff for pedestrians .. .. . people lack basic sense,” quipped one user. Another added, “Yes I too see many people using mobile in traffic they can’t wait for 30 to 60 (avg signal seconds ) without using mobile.”

“Our generation only captures the moments and doesn’t cherish or enjoy them,” lamented the third. The fourth, with a touch of sarcasm, stated, “Those zombies are so busy/ addicted, they will never give a damn to the board:)”
Recently, another viral video unfolded, revealing the somber truth of our times where everything on cell phones eclipses the real world. This revelation occurred during a New Year celebration at Champs Elysées in Paris, where the mesmerising fireworks managed to captivate only the attention of phones, not genuine gazes! The video showcasing this phenomenon, with cameras exclusively capturing the fireworks, ignited online concerns about our dwindling connection to “real” joy, where capturing moments has overshadowed the essence of living in them.
The erstwhile viral video painted a vivid picture of individuals, laser-focused on ensuring their phones captured the perfect shot of the fireworks embellishing the Arc de Triomphe. Instead of faces lifted in awe and wonder, the scene revealed a sea of phones held aloft, documenting the spectacle through screens.
