Anand Mahindra's 'Best Picture of 2024' Features Shompen Tribe Voting For The First Time

As the Lok Sabha Elections of 2024 are going on in full-swing, the Mahindra boss has shared a post on X, highlighting a significant event in India’s democratic journey. His post has been received well by users, who have lauded the industrialist for highlighting the matter.

Here what actually happened — members of the Shompen tribe, who are regarded as one of India’s Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs), took part in voting in Great Nicobar for the very first time. To appreciate this occasion, Anand Mahindra took to the microblogging platform and uploaded a picture of one of the tribe members.

In the picture, a member of the Shompen tribe can be seen standing at the photo booth after casting his vote. Anand Mahindra captioned the post, “This, for me, is the best picture of the 2024 elections. One of seven members of the Shompen tribe in Great Nicobar voted for the first time. Democracy: it’s an irresistible, unstoppable force.”

As soon as the photo was uploaded, it went viral and people swamped the comment section to appreciate the major happening in the voting history of India. One of the users wrote, “We truly thank the #ECI for the photo frame that draws attention and lets others know they’ve tried their hardest by voting; now it’s up to you to do the right thing.” Another user commented, “Who is winning or who is losing does not matter at all. But this is the real victory of democracy in Bharat! The participation of the person sitting at the last rung of society in organising the great festival of democracy is the true picture of Bharatiya democracy.”

In a first, as many as seven Shompen tribe members who live in the dense tropical rain forests of Great Nicobar Island participated in the election process by casting their votes in the Andaman and Nicobar Lok Sabha constituencies.
