AC Malfunction Causes Chaos On Delhi-Varanasi Flight, IndiGo Apologises
"We extend our apologies for the inconvenience experienced on flight 6E 2235 operating from Delhi to Varanasi on September 5," IndiGo said.

When we think of air travel, we often picture comfort: an air-conditioned cabin and views of clouds drifting by. However, passengers on an IndiGo flight from Delhi to Varanasi on Thursday, September 5, faced an unsettling situation when the cabin’s air-conditioning system malfunctioned, leading to extreme temperature fluctuations. The intense heat from the faulty AC caused considerable discomfort and confusion among travellers. An in-flight video of the incident has recently emerged online, drawing various reactions from viewers.

The video was recorded by a passenger from the flight and later shared on X (formerly known as Twitter) on September 6. “Kalesh inside Indigo Flight over AC not working inside from Delhi to Varanasi Flight,” read the side note. The clip shows the passengers expressing their anger over the matter. Standing from his seat, a man yells at the airplane management staff. “Dimag kharab hai. Jan bujh ke take off kiya hai. (Lost their minds. They took off deliberately.),” he can be heard saying. Others are either standing on the aisle or fanning themselves with magazines due to the heat. A person touches the AC button feature on the ceiling, presumably hoping that it will start working.

Reactions flooded the comments section in no time. “As Visatara is being merged now with Air India, the choices are reduced to few for most routes. These types of issues will increase. Thanks to Monopoly,” explained a user.

Expressing their disappointment over the matter, another quipped, “This is India. Yaha aise hi hota hai (Such things happen here).” Sharing their personal experience, an individual wrote, “Indigo is becoming one of the worst airline services in India. I recently faced this same kinda issue.”

“AC is a necessity in flights. Or it will get too heated. Can understand the passengers. Indigo should improve their services,” read a remark.

IndiGo Airlines has issued an apology over the matter today, September 7. They released a press statement that read, “We extend our apologies for the inconvenience experienced on flight 6E 2235 operating from Delhi to Varanasi on September 5, 2024. The discomfort was attributed to fluctuations in cabin temperature, which were adjusted in response to passenger requests. Our cabin crew promptly extended assistance to the affected passenger to address the situation.”

So far, the video has garnered over 90,000 views on the micro-blogging platform.
