Kumkum Bhagya, a popular show on Zee TV, is among the longest-running daily soaps on television. Since its inception in 2014, the show has consistently dominated viewership rankings, thanks to its talented cast and gripping storyline. Currently, fans are captivated by the on-screen chemistry between Mugdha Chaphekar and Krishna Kaul, who portray the lead couple, Prachi and Ranbir. In the latest, the makers are planning on introducing a second-generation leap on the show. Reportedly, the lead actors will leave the show, and the makers are looking for new faces to take the story forward.
Elaborating on the development, a source told ETimes, “The show is again headed for a generation leap and the makers have started auditioning for new actors. The entire cast including the lead actors will no longer be a part of the show. Leaps are important for the show to progress ahead. They also lend freshness and new twists to the story. The leap is likely to happen in November.”
Kumkum Bhagya made its debut in 2014 with Shabir Ahluwalia and Sriti Jha in the lead roles, portraying Abhi and Pragya respectively. The show quickly gained popularity, achieving high TRPs, and viewers were captivated by the chemistry between these two characters. In 2019, the series underwent a significant transition with a generation leap, which eventually led to the departure of Sriti Jha and Shabir Ahluwalia from the show. Subsequently, the storyline revolved around the life of Prachi, who is the daughter of Abhi and Pragya, and her character was portrayed by Mugdha Chaphekar. Krishna Kaul joined the cast as Ranbir Kohli and was paired with Mugdha Chaphekar’s character, Prachi. At present, the plot delves into the lives of Prachi and Ranbir as parents to their six-year-old daughter, marking a new phase in the story.
Meanwhile, amid the news of the leap, Reyhna Pandit, who plays Aaliya on Kumkum Bhagya, recently announced that she is quitting the show. A report by Tellychakkar quoted her as saying, “It has been almost three years of playing Aaliya. Then, my track took a backseat around February 2023 and I was on a break for 2-3 months. Later, the makers called me back in May as my track was revived. However, as my track progressed, I realised that there was not much to do. I want to essay challenging roles. And so, I decided it was time to opt out. I am happy that the makers offered me Aaliya because it was a good role, but over a period of three years, I felt I had done everything to the best of my ability and nothing much was left to explore.”
Kumkum Bhagya is produced by Ektaa Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilm and airs at 9 p.m. on Zee TV and also streams on Zee5.
