Gadgets always get people excited especially when they offer comfort and ease of use. One such device is a smartwatch but most of us are worried about getting it charged because the battery life on these things isn’t reliable. However, now there’s an app that can let you do all sorts of things from the wrist, which includes turning on the TV, tuning into your favourite Netflix show or dimming the lights before a movie starts.
So what is this magic app that can do all these tasks that too from a smartwatch? The app is called Doublepoint which is from a Finnish startup. The company has showcased its tech at the CES 2024 in Las Vegas this week, which works on a WearOS smartwatch which means Android-based wearables.
The app gets access to Bluetooth to connect with varied devices that are available in the space. Once you’re connected, nifty features like tapping fingers or rotating your wrist could get the command executed. That’s not all, it can also use eye tracking to give you a virtual cursor that can move things on the screen. Many reports citing the demo of the app seem impressed by its performance but it’s another matter when the app makes it to the public.
Doublepoint is ready to ship the app to the developers sometime this year who will then look to add new use cases for the technology. But the biggest update from the company is that the app might actually become a part of custom wearable chipsets from Qualcomm which could expand its availability across different price points.
Android has struggled to match Apple Watch in the market for years but this nifty feature could at least give people something to think about when they decide to buy a smartwatch in the next few years.
