Over 40 years ago, on May 10, 1975, Sony launched its revolutionary product, The Next Thing: Betamax, which was the first home video recorder to hit the market at its time of launch. The recorder used tapes that recorded one-hour programs and could be reused again and again.

The company announced that by March 2016, it will end the shipment of beta video cassette and micro cassette MV, the Betamax-compatible tapes.
