Hackers continue to find new ways to bypass and the latest one is rather scary because they can access your account even without knowing your password. In fact, their access isn’t restricted even if you reset the password. The worrying details have been provided by CloudSEK in a report this month.
The issue is linked to third-party cookies that are a core part of Google’s web operations and business. The security firm points out that the vulnerability could pave the way for hackers to compromise your Google details. These cookies also enable authentication and that’s where your passwords and other personal details are stored for a quick sign-in.
“This exploit enables continuous access to Google services, even after a user’s password is reset…It highlights the necessity for continuous monitoring of both technical vulnerabilities and human intelligence sources to stay ahead of emerging cyber threats.” CloudSEK mentioned in its post about the issue.
Google seems to have understood the problem and even claims to have rectified the issue at its end as per the media report. But these concerns are becoming widespread these days which ought to raise the alarm at the tech giant. The company is working diligently to offer better privacy for users and also restrict access to malware across its platforms.
Google is also bringing changes which allows people to limit cookies from tracking their web activity which could be a big deal for the company and its business partners. Google also has to strengthen its mechanism to track malicious apps efficiently and stop them from targeting billions of Android users who can inadvertently give all the access to these apps which lets them steal data and more.
