New Delhi: Microsoft is doing away with the prefix- Xbox- for its music and video preview apps for the latest Windows 10 operating system. Both the apps will now be renamed Music and Video to make them sound less confusing.
Xbox Music and Xbox Video seemed specific to the software giant's Xbox gaming console. However, with the new OS, the company aims to change that and remove the Xbox branding.
A report in The Verge stated that the new preview apps, issued with the Windows 10 preview version, are similar in functionality as the ones found in the predecessor Windows 8.1 version. However, they will certainly come with a slightly altered user interface. The new apps will have tweaked hamburger menus that collapse by default in a windowed view. Access to settings and account options has been made easier.
Using these preview apps in the latest Windows 10 OS comes with certain drawbacks, which include lack of playback controls for the Music app on hover in the taskbar and a glitched playing of Music Pass content and galleries. Also the videos downloaded in the previous versions of the app aren't played in the Videos preview app, but streamed. Microsoft has further said that altering the video library by removing or adding folders can hand the app.
Although Microsoft has only released the preview version of these apps, the company is planning to insert more features in the app in the days to come. The new features will include a compact mode, dark color theme, better back button navigation, and the ability to buy music from the Windows Store. Video app will soon offer access to the Windows Store for movies and TV shows, as well as download movies and TV for offline playback.
