New Delhi: Apple has dropped Boot Camp support for Windows 7 on its recently upgraded MacBook Air, Pro models. It will only work with Windows 8 or later.
Boot Camp is Apple's software designed to allow its Mac users to install Microsoft Windows on their machines. However, it has now stopped supporting the older Windows OS versions on its refreshed Mac lineup.
MacRumors report said that the Macs released in 2014 continued to offer Windows 7 installations, but 2014 MacBook Air and Pro models will be the last Apple notebooks to support the operating system.
Windows 7 can still be used on the refreshed Macs with virtualization software like VMware Fusion and Parallels.
Given the advanced age of Windows 7 OS, it was predictable that Apple would phase out its Boot Camp support much to the disappointment of its Mac users.
Windows 7 first became available to the public in 2009 and was followed by Windows 8 in 2012. Despite being six years old, Windows 7 continues to be the most heavily used Windows-based operating system. Microsoft is all geared up to release its latest Windows 10 with biometric authentication support this summer. The company has confirmed that it will offer a free upgrade for Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 users.
