Malayalam cinema’s acclaimed actors Roshan Mathew and Nimisha Sajayan are set to collaborate with director Richie Mehta for the upcoming series Poacher. The eight-episode series is scheduled to premiere on Amazon Prime on February 23, reaching audiences in India and 240 countries worldwide. The streaming platform released the series poster with the caption, “Echoes from the jungle expose a deadly conspiracy!” The series, which will be available in Malayalam, Hindi, and English, features a cast including Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Renuka Purohit, Kani Kusruti, and others. QC Entertainment and Suitable Pictures have produced the series.
Poacher sheds light on the significant contributions of Indian Forest Service officers and NGO workers from the Wildlife Trust of India. It also delves into the role of police constables and individuals who risked their lives to investigate the largest ivory poaching gang in Indian history.
The series, akin to Richie Mehta’s earlier work Delhi Crime, is based on true events. Filming reportedly took place in Delhi and the jungles of Kerala. Poacher unfolds as an investigative procedural, emphasizing the intricate relationship between humans and the animal kingdom. The makers aim to initiate conversations about wildlife conservation and inspire action against such crimes. The first three episodes of Poacher premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2023, earning acclaim from the audience.
For Roshan Mathew, Poacher marks his debut in a web series. In a previous interview with Cinema Express, he expressed his admiration for Richie Mehta’s work on Delhi Crime and his excitement about working on Poacher. Roshan mentioned that he consciously worked on perfecting his Hindi accent for the series.
Director Richie Mehta shared his passion for portraying wildlife on screen in an interview with Firstpost. He expressed the hope that “Poacher” would not only entertain but also initiate conversations and inspire action against wildlife crimes.
The upcoming series has generated significant anticipation, and fans are eagerly awaiting its release on Amazon Prime.
