A bus conductor in Maharashtra’s Pune suffered injuries on the head and neck after four metro rail employees allegedly thrashed him after an argument over not vacating seats reserved for women and buying tickets. The incident took place on Wednesday under the limits of Swargate police station.

One of the accused, identified as Nishan Singh, allegedly attacked the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) bus conductor Maruti Jamdade with a steel ‘kada’ (bracelet) leading to four stitches to his head, as per a Times of India report. Singh was detained later.

According to the report, Singh and three of his colleagues boarded the bus from Shivajinagar and had allegedly occupied seats reserved for women on the bus.

As per TOI, Jamdade in his complaint, claimed that all accused delayed buying tickets till the bus reached Shaniwarwada and “One of them finally paid Rs 10. I issued him a ticket and told the other three men to either buy tickets or get down at the next stop.”

Later, the trio paid for the tickets and picked another quarrel with the conductor, to drop them beyond the last stop of the bus, Swargate depot, which is a walkable distance, said the report. The conductor said that they had a heated verbal exchanges, leading to attack by Singh.

The driver of the bus and one of the passengers helped Jamdade get hold of the accused who was hastily trying to flee the spot, while others escaped the situation. Police nabbed Singh and sent him the notice to cooperate in probe.

The accused reached the police station the next day and was detained for medical examination. Search is underway to nab other accused in the case.

“We are in the process of arresting him on the charges of assault and obstructing public servant from performing his duty. We collected blood samples of Singh as well as of Jamdade and sent them to Sassoon General Hospital for analysis,” TOI quoted Laxman Sonawane, assistant inspector, as saying.
