IND vs BAN: Virat Kohli Ends 8-year Wait With a Century in ODI World Cup
It was Virat Kohli's third century in the World Cup as he had to wait for 8 years to reach the mark.

The 8-year wait is over as Virat Kohli scored his third ODI World Cup century as the batting superstar smashed an unbeaten 103 runs against Bangladesh on Thursday. Kohli continued his glorious form in the ongoing World Cup and smashed the Bangladesh bowlers all around the park with a sensational century. His knock powered India to a sensational 7-wicket win over Bangladesh to make it four wins in a row in the campaign.

It was Kohli’s third century in the World Cup as he had to wait for 8 years to reach the mark as the last time he hit a ton in the marquee ICC event was in 2015 against Pakistan.

Kohli didn’t register a century in the 2019 edition of World Cup but was in decent form with 5 half-centuries in the campaign where India suffered a defeat in the semifinals against New Zealand.

Meanwhile, it was not an easy task for Kohli to get to a hundred as at one stage India required 26 runs to win and he was batting at 74. Kohli decided not to take a single apart from the last ball of the over and looked to score boundaries or doubles. There was also a little bit of drama as Nasum Ahmed bowled a wide down the leg side but the umpire didn’t give it. It was the third ball of the 42nd over when he smashed a six-over deep mid-wicket for a maximum.

The 34-year-old (48) is now just one short of equaling Sachin Tendulkar’s tally (49) of most ODI centuries.

Kohli smashed 6 fours and 4 sixes during his 97-ball knock which also helped him win the Player of the Match award. Meanwhile, it was his first in the World Cup while chasing.

India, set a target of 257, finished on 261-3 inside 42 overs with Kohli hitting the winning runs when he reached his hundred with a six off spinner Nasum Ahmed.

Earlier, in the day, Kohli also rolled his arms after Hardik Pandya got injured and wasn’t able to complete his over.

Bowling medium pace, Kohli conceded just two runs, a fine return given Bangladesh’s openers were starting to up the tempo after stand-in captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, leading the team in place of the injured Shakib Al Hasan, won the toss.
