Senior advocate HS Phoolka, who recently resigned from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has rubbished reports of joining the BJP after a series of meetings with party leader Vijay Goel.
Phoolka took to Twitter on Sunday to say Goel was a “longtime friend and had been quietly helping him with cases involving the 1984 anti-Sikh riots”. Sources had claimed that Phoolka had also met the BJP leader before resigning from the AAP.
The senior advocate, while quitting the AAP, had said converting an anti-corruption movement into a political party in 2012 was "wrong". He had also ruled out contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha election.
"I will not contest Lok Sabha election although after the conviction of Sajjan Kumar, people in Punjab said I could easily win from any seat." Phoolka has been fighting the legal battle for the 1984 anti-Sikh riots victims. Congress leaders Kamal Nath and Jagdish Tytler are yet to be brought to book and this battle will be fought through a common platform, the former AAP leader said.
Meeting @VijayGoelBJP is no news. We are good friends& meet often. When I became LOP he invited me for dinner at his Haveli. He has been helping me in #1984SikhGenocide cases quietly without claiming any credit. I meet every leader who support our fight4Justice. https://t.co/wvqWySZWJN— H S Phoolka (@hsphoolka) 6 January 2019
Phoolka's resignation from the AAP had also come amid speculation of a possible alliance between the Congress and the Arvind Kejriwal-led party for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. Sources claimed he was also annoyed over the AAP's stand on the demand to strip former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi of the Bharat Ratna for "justifying" the anti-Sikh riots.
