Lucknow: Polling for the second phase of municipal elections for 26 municipal corporations, 51 municipal councils and 132 nagar panchayats in 25 districts, including the capital Lucknow, would be held on November 26 that will decide the fate of 83 candidates.
In the second phase, 24,622 persons will try their luck for the posts of Mayor, Municipal Council President, Nagar Panchayat Chairperson and Municipal Councillors. There are 14,966 males and 9656 female candidates in Uttar Pradesh to conduct the second phase of polling for municipal elections in the state.
There are 83 candidates for the post of Mayor in Lucknow, Varanasi, Mathura-Vrindavan, Ghaziabad, Allahabad and Aligarh Municipal Corporations. In the 520 wards of these 5 municipal corporations 2767 male and 1577 female candidates are in the field for the post of municipal councillor.
Polling for the second phase will start on November 26 at 4056 polling booths of 776 centres from 7.30 am to 5 pm, in which 1 crore 29 lakh 2 thousand 689 voters will exercise their franchise in 25 districts of the state. The districts which will be going for polls on 26th are Muzaffarnagar, Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Amroha, Rampur, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, Aligarh, Mathura, Mainpuri, Farrukhabad, Etawah, Lalitpur, Banda, Allahabad, Lucknow, Sultanpur, Ambedkar Nagar, Bahraich, Shravasti, Sant Kabir Nagar, Deoria, Ballia, Varanasi and Bhadohi.
As canvassing for the second phase of municipal polls in Uttar Pradesh came to an end on Friday evening, State Election Commissioner S K Agarwal held a meeting with the Director General of Police and Chief Secretary (Home) using video conference technology to review preparations for the second phase of polling of municipal body polls on November 26. All the District Magistrates, SP's and Observers of the 25 districts attended the meeting through videoconferencing.
State Election Commissioner, S K Agarwal, also instructed strict implementation of closure of liquor shops. The liquor shops in the 25 districts will be shut down from Friday evening 5 pm and will open on 26th evening after the polling has been concluded. The Commission also reviewed important arrangements like security and power in the respective districts and gave necessary directions to the concerned officials and instructed them to take strict action against anti-social elements.
