Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday welcomed the Supreme Court decision on a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the multi-crore Vyapam scam.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader further said, “I appeal to the CBI to initiate the probe at the earliest and bring out the truth before the people of this country."
Hailing himself for the CBI probe into the scam, Chouhan said that there would not have been a probe into Vyapam scam had he not wanted one.
The Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister also hit out at the Congress, saying they had hit him “below the belt", levelling false allegations in connection with the scam. He said that opposition was suffering from “Shivraj Phobia".
Lashing out at the Congress party, Chouhan further said that they should have attacked him, and not the government, as their main target was the Chief Minister himself.
The Madhya Pradesh strongman, however, refused to comment on the issue of Supreme Court notice to state Governor Ram Naresh Yadav, saying he would not talk about a Constitutional authority.
This came after the Supreme Court transferred all cases related to the Vyapam scam and deaths to CBI. The apex court also sought a reply from the CBI in two weeks on whether the probe should be monitored by the Supreme Court.
