New Delhi: The terror attack in Mumbai in November last year is a big issue this election season and Shiv Sena is using it to attack the Congress-led UPA government.
In his latest attack, Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray has used strong language against the Government, demanding Mohd Ajmal Kasab be hanged. He says, “Do you want to give these eunuchs (Congress) power to control this country again? Keeping Kasab in a top-security prison cell is not enough to make us feel safe. We want Kasab hanged”.
The 82-year-old also claimed to have raised the voice of the Marathi people. He said, "there are now others who are copying my style and claiming that they represent the Marathis."
Thackeray, however, refused to name his nephew Raj Thackeray, whose MNS claims to have taken up cudgels on behalf of the Marathis.
The Sena chief also took exception to giving of tickets to criminals, distribution of money and alcohol among voters.
He claimed that he had scolded then Sena MP Sanjay Nirupam, who has now joined the Congress, for allegedly keeping whisky to lure voters.
Thackeray, who made his first appearance after his recent hospitalisation, said he was feeling weak and would not be able to travel in the heat and dust of election campaigns.
"I can't speak for long. Please pray for my health so that I can stand before you as earlier.
"I have handed over the entire charge of the party to him (Uddhav). He consults me on important organisational matters," Thackeray said.
NDA prime ministerial candidate L K Advani and Sena Executive President Uddhav Thackeray also spoke at the rally.
Referring to the current political situation, Thackeray said, "Everyone wants to be the Prime Minister. I am happy where I am and am happy being the Shiv Sena 'pramukh' (chief)."
