New Delhi: Though yoga guru Baba Ramdev ended his fast on Tuesday and left the national capital for Haridwar, he threatened that his protest against the Congress-led UPA government would continue and even announced that he would ask his supporters to vote for a particular party in the 2014 General Elections.
Much to the relief of the government, Ramdev finally ended his fast on Tuesday. However, as he was leaving the capital, the yoga guru challenged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to address the issue of black money in his Independence Day speech. But what's really the road ahead for Baba Ramdev.
Ramdev called off his fast at 11 am on Tuesday, but only after giving the police establishment a very tough time.
While leaving the Ambedkar Stadium, Ramdev took numerous potshots at the Prime Minister.
"The Prime Minister is a Sikh but is the most incompetent Sikh I know," said Ramdev addressing the crowd.
The final moments of his agitation were definitely successful with the entire stadium bustling with supporters.
Ramdev's promise of 'no political agenda' behind his movement against black money and corruption seems to have taken a back seat now with his announcement of supporting a political party in the 2014 General Elections and vowing to defeat the Congress-led UPA.
Before breaking his fast at Ambedkar Stadium on Tuesday, Ramdev, who successfully managed to get thousands of people during his protest march, said that he would inform all his supporters to vote for a particular party in the elections at the right time, leaving politicians wondering about the possible beneficiary.
The yoga guru also vowed to continue his attack on the Congress-led UPA. He promised his supporters that he would continue his protest in Haridwar.
Apart from different religious leaders, BJP MP Ram Jethmalani joined the long list of leaders sharing the dais with the yoga guru. The veteran lawyer urged the people to throw out the Congress-led UPA in 2013 itself.
"I work for the courts but Baba works for the people of this country," said Jethmalani.
In the last two days of his agitation, Ramdev surely caught a lot of eyeballs. He got considerable political attention with BJP president Nitin Gadkari sharing stage with him as well. While leaving the stadium, he sent out a clear message that he's going to organise more such protests till the General Elections are held.
His favourite slogan during the protest fast was: "Congress hatao, desh bachao (Remove Congress, save the country)."
Ramdev, who just few days back criticised team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal for naming individuals in public seems to have forgotten the Jantar Mantar incident as he kept on accusing the Prime Minister, Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi of not only protecting the corrupt but also indulging in corruption.
With the BJP-led NDA coming out in full support, Ramdev has surely got the necessary political backing required to play a role.
Like Anna Hazare and his team's movement turning political, Ramdev too has taken a similar path by first saying no to a political agenda, then targeting one political party and finally declaring that he would announce his support for a political party before the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
