Chennai: Water wars between Kerala and Tamil Nadu escalated on Thursday as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa put her foot down on the Mullaperiyar dam issue.
In a letter to Kerala Chief Minister Oomen Chandy, Jayalalithaa asked Kerala to abide by the 2006 Supreme Court recommendations and raise the dam height to 142 feet.
The AIADMK chief, in her letter, said that tremor reports and fears were exaggerated and unfounded.
She reiterated that retrofitted Mullaperiyar Dam was as good as new.
The letter comes a day before the Kerala Chief Minister is slated to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over the issue.
